North of Coeur d’Alene, ID – Make memories that last a lifetime! Silverwood Theme Park will open its gates again Saturday, May 6th, beginning a year of family fun and memories. In 1987, when the Henley Aerodrome & Museum of Transportation was still under construction, Gary Norton wondered whether anyone would actually pay to visit his creation, located in a remote area of North Idaho.
“If nobody shows,” he said, “then I’m just going to have a nice little park to play in with my friends.”
30 years later, people have either shown up in droves, or Norton has around 11 million friends – the number of people who’ve passed through the gates of his theme park, wisely renamed Silverwood before it opened in 1988.
That statistic might be remarkable, but the story of how it happened is even more so.
How did a small showcase of vintage planes, trains and automobiles become a regional tourist destination featuring wood roller coasters and a full water park? Why do over 650,000 people every year journey well off the interstate to a still somewhat remote location in North Idaho? And how are they convinced to do so?
The story is as unique as the park itself.
Silverwood has grown from a local attraction into the largest Theme and Water Park in the Northwest with 221 acres of fun and over 70 rides, slides, shows and attractions in the park. The park boasts four massive roller coasters, 1 drop tower and countless other family-friendly rides and attractions, Boulder Beach Water Park will open June 10th with two expansive wave pools, numerous water slides, play areas for the kids and VIP cabanas. Introduced in 2016 was Riptide Racer standing nearly 60 feet tall and over 400 feet of slide, the mat racing water slide features 6 side-by-side racing lanes for you and your friends. Silverwood has become synonymous with good family fun and stands as a fixture in the Northwest tourism industry as a must visit vacation destination and the most attended attraction in the state of Idaho.
